Boys Basketball: The Road to Dayton

The race towards the OHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament began this past Friday night for Lima Senior. The Spartans faced off against the Little Giants of Fremont Ross in Division 1-Northwest 1 Sectional Final action. Lima Senior picked up the W in this matchup 81-59, which now sets them up for Districts.

Over 200 teams in Division I entered their names into the race to the State Tournament last week. By March 17th, the 200-school field, will be trimmed down to just four. This Lima Senior squad hopes they can continue the success they've had all season and clinch their ticket to the State Tournament in Dayton.

There's a lot of work that the Spartans have to accomplish though, before they can guarantee themselves a slot on the State Tournament bracket. First, this squad will have to manage their way through a District Semi-Final matchup this Tuesday night against Bowling Green (11-12). Bowling Green recently picked up an overtime victory over Sylvania Northview (17-7) 49-45 on Friday night in Sectional Final action. If Lima Senior is able to defeat the Bobcats of Bowling Green, then their next matchup would be against either Toledo St. Francis de Sales (13-9) or Perrysburg (18-5) in the District Final (March 3rd).

Following a district championship, the Spartans would be two games away from a ticket clinched to the State Tournament. The Regional Semi-Final matchup (March 9th) would likely be against either Toledo Whitmer (15-8) or Findlay (16-7). The Regional Final matchup (March 11th) would likely be against either Garfield Heights (20-3), Brunswick (17-6), Brecksville-Broadview Heights (20-3), or Cleveland St. Ignatius (16-7). Regional matchups would be played at Savage Arena at the University of Toledo.

With this said, the Lima Senior Spartans have a long road to the OHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament, but the team is prepared for this long journey.
